HELP! I Can’t Find the S: Drive

  Common, Troubleshooting

Your Desktop app may notice this before you do. If it notifies you, it is already trying to fix the problem. Wait a few minutes, then check again.

If the Desktop app is unable to reconnect the lost drives, you may have to take action.

If this error occurs at home, there may be a few different causes. Double check these things:

  • Are you logged in as a Domain User? When logging into the device, you should use the format SDCP\first
  • Is your VPN connected and working? If you can run the desktop software, the VPN is working.

If neither of those are the issues, or if you are at the office, you have a couple options.

  1. Reboot the device. It will try to reconnect the drives when it starts up.
  2. Update the group policy.

To update the group policy, open Command Prompt and enter the command:

gpupdate /force

It might take a few moments to run, so take this time to unwind and practice mindfulness in preparation for the coming sprint of work chaos.

HELP! That Still Didn’t Fix It

Sometimes gpupdate /force fixes the problem but forgets to tell File Explorer. You can test this by entering the command:

net use

If the missing drives show as OK and you can navigate into the directories in Command Prompt, you may have to restart explorer.exe.

taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
start explorer.exe

Enjoy your administrator-approved murder.
